Our History

Through their purposeful endeavour of our founding on Friday, 30 September 1983 their vision became a reality with the signing of the certificate of registration, formally bringing the credit union into existence. This group of persons were all employees of the then Parks and Beaches now The National Conservation Commission. The founding members with their vision led from the front and steered the credit union in a direction where it could grow and develop in a sustainable manner. Throughout the years, the organisation has faced its challenges such as declining financial environments which had micro level implications. Throughout every season, to stay relevant we had to adapt, find ways to aid our membership, to combat the ails of the recession internationally and locally. Though trying, with a dedicated team the credit union was able to thrive and step in progress at every junction. Today, the credit union proudly boasts of approximately 600 active members and assets valued at $10,097,046 at the end of September 2020 from a meagre 46 active members with assets valued at $10,427. This can largely be credited to the vision that has been inherited from the founders to press forward and find ways to provide quality service to our membership that would enable them to reach their fullest potential as proclaimed in the credit union’s mission statement.

Future of ECCUL

We are gearing our members to utilize technology be it for financial matters or an AGM meeting. Therefore, we will prepare our members towards being equipped for this ever-changing world. In light of our maturing membership, this is the time for the youth to be involved in the movement. It is our intention to embrace this sector rigorously as this is the way forward. Being mindful the board will have to find innovative ways to make the credit union attractive to them.
